Job Purpose
We are looking for a motivated and hands-on Junior HR & Payroll Assistant to join our manufacturing team. This role is ideal for a young or entry-level individual who is eager to build a career in Human Resources and Payroll. The successful candidate will support the HR Manager with day-to-day HR and payroll activities, including employee relations, training, recruitment, payroll support, and HR administration.
Training and mentorship will be provided to develop the successful candidate’s skills and knowledge within a manufacturing environment.
Payroll Support
- Assist with the monthly payroll process.
- Capture and verify employee payroll information (hours worked, overtime, leave, deductions, and allowances)
- Help ensure payroll accuracy and compliance with company policies
- Assist in preparing basic payroll reports
- Support in resolving payroll queries from employees
- Maintain and update payroll records and employee files
- Assist with administration of employee benefits (medical insurance, provident fund, MEIBC benefits, etc.)
- Support benefit enrollments, changes, and terminations
- Help communicate benefit information to employees
- Liaise with benefit providers where required
- Maintain accurate benefit records
- Maintain employee files and HR records (electronic and manual)
- Assist with HR documentation and filing
- Support HR reporting and maintain trackers and databases
- Ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures
- Assist with recruitment processes (posting adverts, screening CVs, scheduling interviews)
- Support onboarding of new employees, including documentation and inductions
- Ensure employee information is captured accurately on HR and payroll systems
- Provide administrative support to the HR Manager on employee relations matters
- Assist with preparing disciplinary documentation and warnings
- Help promote a positive and fair working environment
- Assist in ensuring compliance with South African labour legislation and company policies
- Support HR audits and maintain accurate records
- Assist with basic HR and compliance reporting
Education
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resources Management or related field.
- 1-2 years of experience in an HR and payroll role.
- Sage Payroll Professional experiences will be an added advantage
- Basic understanding of South African labour legislation (BCEA, LRA, etc.)
- Exposure to time and attendance systems will be an advantage
- Basic understanding of MEIBC will be beneficial
- Strong attention to detail (especially when working with numbers)
- Willingness to learn and grow within HR and Payroll
- High level of confidentiality and professionalism
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Positive attitude and team player
